you don't have to get naked to enjoy this place.
I did, but I waited until the sun went down.

abajo del rio

Beneath the River.
These images were made when I lived in Portland, Oregon. That was roughly 6 years ago. I lived in Portland for 5 years. So much happened in those 5 years. These two images are part of a series of 4. Self portraits. I haven't done that type of work in a while and have a tiny craving for it. I met a gal named Kerry this weekend who reminded me of this work. We were talking about how one person might say something negative about your work and for some reason you find yourself believing them and it effects how you work. A little seed gets planted and you don't even realize it is growing in your own mind.
Abajo del Rio is somehow a metaphor today for that exact thing. When I made these images I was reacting to a particular relationship in my life. I believed someone was who he said he was - and then found out that he had lied. This was a VERY BIG lie. I found it shattering. I took it personally and it provoked a search to find a way to no longer suffer based on how other people behave. I'm not real into that. Suffering because of someone else's actions, words, beliefs, etc. It's a big time waster, and can be so draining. Still learning and growing around that one. When I look at these images I do feel the sting of that time in my life. It was a dark time for me. But I learned so much as a result. What a blessing that time was.
And I am still learning now. Abajo del Rio.

feet

I think this is one of my favorites.

Thought I'd post this today as I am in the middle of a weekend long shoot for Montgomery Creative and the Discovery Channel. I'm doing behind the scenes ( BTS ) shots of the entire weekend. It has been amazing. I've really enjoyed it and for some reason it pulls together my years back stage in theater with the years photographing weddings. Montgomery Creative is where my fiance Jerry works as a creative director. He hired me for this job. It's been great to be on set with him and watch him in action. Here is a link to his website. You should really check this out because the work they do is amazing.

Jerry tells me that I am not really allowed to tell you about the shoot they are doing until after it runs on TV. I am sworn to secrecy. I can tell you that I've met some great people, a lot of them are photographers themselves so we can talk shop, and I have heard some incredible stories about their lives that just blow my mind.

power lines and mothers

This weekend Jerry and I went to Santa Monica to take photos at the Pier. Jerry was doing research for an upcoming main title for the Discovery Channel. But its a secret so I can't tell you. I brought the twin lens and took photos of the ocean and of the ferris wheel. I haven't had a second to download the images. But I will post them tonight or tomorrow. This image was taken from the hammock. I liked how the two power lines intersected and the two trees are so far apart but still connected somehow.
Reminds me of my relationship with my mother. She lives in a different city but we are closer then we ever have been. Lines of communication are clear and clean and loving. And I feel attached. I know I shouldn't but I do. I missed being with her on Mother's Day yesterday. I also missed my Grandmother who passed away this past November. It is amazing how things change over a lifetime. I used to try to get as far away from my mom as possible.

pomegranate tree

took this one on that day last week that I layed in the hammock. I was under the pomegranate tree. A hummingbird wizzed by me. It was fabulous.
google dilema: I noticed last night that if I google the words catherine just photography only a few links came up. But if I google the words
catherinejust all as one word this blog comes up and a lot of other stuff of mine. I wonder why that is. I would think that people would type in my name with a space: Catherine Just or Catherine Just Photography. So this is a bummer as I would love to get my blog out there to more people. If anyone out there knows how to make my blog show up by typing my name with the spaces in between let me know. thank you!

giggling and daydreaming

Yesterday was such a great day that I am still reminiscing about it. I met with my friend Nancy and had lunch in Larchmont. What a great area. I've never been there. At the end of our visit we decided to meet once a month....well, lets just say that a new blog and new art project came out of it. It is in the works as we speak. Stay tuned!

Today is another day of adventure. but in a very different way. Internal adventures. I have a lot of reading and writing to do to uncover and create something out of my day dreams.

I might have to do this work on the hammock!

fireflies

May 8th - taken at 7:45pm on the porch.

are you tired of that tree yet? I'm not.

Today I was working on marketing my workshop that is taking place in Teotihuacan, Mexico this July. It was exciting to send out my newsletter. For those of you that don't know about it you can find out more on my website under "workshops".

Strange to be working on this series of trees when I am connecting with my friends who live in Portland. I always say that I miss the trees there. I tend to not notice the trees here. So this is my attempt at noticing.
Noticing while letting go of what the image looks like - just learning to experience it in a fresh way, instead of being aware of an audience in that images future.

seeing double

click on the image above to take make this one larger. It is worth it. This doesn't really give you the full effect.
Taken May 7th at 6:30pm - front porch. So glad I took the time to do this today. I reconnected with old friends today and am taking steps toward my new vision. Double Vision. Connect with friends old and new, Create work that makes me sing. Love life and enjoy the moments in them. Noticing things that are right in front of me... and watch a lot of tv if I want to.

cinco de mayo

Power lounged on the hammock today. There is a pomegranate tree with bright orange flowers, and a eucalyptus tree that loves to smile and wave in the wind. The weather was perfect for a nice nap outside at 5:30 today. happy cinco de mayo!

kite flying

didn't get a chance to photograph our tree today so I thought I'd post one from our kite flying date that happened about a month ago. My dad gave me this kite many years ago and it never made it back into the sky until this amazing date with Jerry. It will go down as one of my all time favorite days of my entire life. yes really. it was that good. And the kite flying with my dad of course is on that list too. I highly recommend it. kite flying with someone you love. especially at the beach at sunset.

may 1st

Looks like I'm working on a series of tree images. Love this tree. It is in our front yard and is why I sit on the porch every morning to have my breakfast. This was taken just before the sun went down.
